Our History

De La Rue Smurfit Limited was formed in 1976 as a joint venture by De La Rue plc, the currency printers and Jefferson Smurfit, the carton manufacturers.

De La Rue Smurfit was equipped with flat sheet and web printing presses, digital personalisation machinery and bespoke finishing equipment and won prestigious contracts such as the Irish Passport, Tobacco Tax Stamps, Motor tax discs, AIB, Bank of Ireland and Permanent TSB chequebooks, Prescription forms, Television Licence Stamps and Postal Money orders.

In 2007 the Company became a wholly owned Smurfit Kappa company, trading as DLRS Ltd.

The Smurfit Kappa Group is the world-leader in paper based packaging, operating in 23 countries in Europe. Smurfit Kappa Group is the European leader in containerboard, solid board, corrugated and solid board packaging and has a key position in several other paper packaging market segments. The Group also operates in 10 countries in Latin America where it is the only pan-European operator.

Smurfit Kappa has continued to invest in DLRS Ltd, enabling us to cement our position as a market leader in passports, tobacco tax stamps, ballot papers, vouchers, revenue stamps, cheques, and other security products and also to expand the security solutions, which we can offer to our customers. This investment has enabled us to enter into the biometric passport and card markets.

DLRS Ltd is also able to offer a consultancy service for security solutions utilizing its unparalleled experience, providing customers with a unique level of expertise in design manufacture and processing.

In 2019 DLRS Limited changed its name to Smurfit Kappa Security Concepts.
